Well it happened again. Another flippin' gig cancelled. "Bother". The Griffith Shops gig has been cancelled people, why exactly we dont know, although our sources suggest that the cancellation was due to some kind of homeopathic/poison lava related accident, but that is yet to be confirmed. None the less, Los Cap will be flopping out an all ages show pretty darn soon, so keep a keen eye on the website (and our myspace thing) Its been far too long in between ACT shows, a fact which hasn't escaped our international exchange guitarist El Davo Roderiguez...

Tim: "They cancelled the gig."
Dave: "Yum."

As some of you may have noticed, everybodies favourite lanky freakazoid (lachlan) has been missing from the los cap stage of late, so to put to rest rumours that he had in fact became so skinny that he was no longer visible from a side-on angle, it is our sad duty to inform youse all that lachlan has left los cap and moved on to pursue his hobbies (being tall and being skinny) on the goldest coast of all time. The Gold Coast. Whilst this is indeed a time to mourn, we at los cap would like to thank lachlan for all the illin', chillin' and drink spillin'. From all the los cap boys, we'll miss you mate, stay lanky and stay skanky.

(Also tip top photos from Melbourne are finally up....) YES!

So it turns out that for the Make Poverty History gig they'd double booked us with rain, thanks to those who sent their condolences - we *will* be having more canberra gigs soon! Some highlights from this lengthy list are the Griffith Shops on 29th October and a super-huge festival gig at Tuggeranong Foreshore on 26th of November.

Also - people that come to our gigs instead of school are totally hardcore.

Welcome back sports fans, I believe its now time sit back and reflect on the launchalicious lovin' that was served out on Friday night to those lucky enough to witness the fitness of some of Canberra's gnarliest punk action. First up was Strong Like Sam, just about the nicest emo kids your ever likely to meet. They blasted out a phat set of super tubular goodness and got the crowd fired for the ever menacing red manace. These guys took the stage and friggin pushed the crowd even further into frenzy paving the way for loz kapitarnes (?). After a fair bit of skanking, swinging, pushing, falling, screaming, yelling, dancing, crying, laughing, smelling, singing and dodging Never in Doubt finally took the stage and rocked the flippin house.

Mega-awesome shout out to all NiD fellas for putting on a wicked-tang show and to all the people who rocked up and rocked out, you're the ones keeping this scene alive and skanking. DONT LET THE FRIGGIN MAN SHUT ALL AGES SHOWS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (!!!)*

Got update? Our business consultants recently recommended we start a campaign to infiltrate your computers and mobiles. A completely unrelated development is the release of wallpapers, ringtones and a video direct from Los Cap to You!

Next Saturday Canberra will be blessed by arguably the porkiest ska band in the world: The Porkers.

The boys will be making the arduous (Yet infinitely rewarding) journey to our humble city to shower us once again with their delicious pork flavoured ska promoting their new album, 'Live At Nakanoshima'. Following the success of their last all ages show in canberra, The Greenroom (11 Altree court Phillip) will be hosting two shows on the one day; an all ages in the afternoon and an 18+ later that night. Better Than a Poke in the Eye
The Gingers
Los Capitanes
The Porkers

A big floppy hip hip hurray (!) must be extended UNSW for having us at their uni bar last Friday night. We had a sick-sational time on and off the stage thanks mainly to the efforts of the totally necessary Student Union and its mandatory funding scheme (gives enthusiastic thumbs up).

This Friday the 20th come and watch Sydney's Empire Hotel transform into a futuristic ska-topia LITERALLY, as we team up with ska Legends The Porkers and Sydney's pride Bagster. To say this show is going to be a mega-super-big-heaps-good/phat EXTRAVAGANZA would be a disgusting understatement. For those of you who aren't able to make it however fret not! We've got another ALL AGES show with Bagster and the Porkers on the 18th of June at the Greenroom. So keep both eyes out (and an ear or two) for more info coming up really soon. I promise. No seriously.

The run sheet for this Sundays ALL AGES gig at In Blue reads a little something exactly like this:

1:00pm-Lucid Minds
2:00pm-Memorandom
3:00pm-Aussie Diggaz
4:00pm-Never in Doubt
5:00pm-Los Capitanes (us)

The cover charge is only $5 and you'll get to see some of Canberra's gnarliest live bands AND support local community radio, hopefully by the end you'll feel like a really tip top all round charitable nice guy person. Los Cap will also be doing an interview on 2xx (98.3FM) this Thursday arvo at 4:45pm, so tune in and you might even hear us flop out a cheeky little acoustic set live on air.

Well well well..."News"

Finally I have some non pope related news, or at least with reduced pope content. Los Capitanes will be playing a mega-phat show on the 6th of May at 'The Round House'. Apparently this is on UNSW campus, so if you live in Sydney and have a fake ID, come and check it out because all signs tell me that this is going to super-tacular. That same weekend on the Sunday (the holiest day on the pope's calendar) we'll be playing at 'In Blue' in civic as part of the huge 2XX fundraising events happening all around the capital. It's an all ages show and is for a bloomin' good cause, 2XX has been helping out local Canberra bands since 39020804500 BC, in fact many believe that the very first kooky breakfast 'gang' consisted of two lovable dinosaurs named...George...and...Kevin... (?).

Moving right along, we don't have any specific details for either of these shows just yet, but rest assured they'll be up in lightening speed.

09 April, 2005

Long chastised for his silence on the genre debate, closet ska fan John Paul the 2nd has finally passed on to that big heaven in the sky...heaven.

"What the heck does this have to do with me?" I hear you inquire.
"And further more, what the shit is a pontiff?"

Well the answer to both these pressing questions can be found below:

This weekends Youth Week gig has been cancelled because the governor general has selfishly decided to head on up to the funeral of 'senor dead pope'. This means that the gig can't go ahead because it was meant to be at his house, or like in his backyard or something. Now when I first heard this I couldn't decide who was more selfish, the pope or the governor general. After much thought on the issue, I decided however that real culprit was in fact the Bush Administration. Regardless of who died where and who bombed who, the point is that we are sorry to once again cancel a gig so close to the date.

At the moment, the next gig on the horizon appears to be a 2XX fundraiser at the Holy Grail in civic on the 7th of May. It's going to be an all ages affair so everyone get on down and support 2XX, they do an amazing job and its up to the locals to keep 2XX kickin'.

Pontiff is a title of certain religious leaders. It comes from the Latin word pontifex, which literally means bridge-maker, and is in turn derived from an Etruscan word that means a religious leader, not a bridge-maker. It could therefore be construed to mean a bridge between God and humanity. - Nick

Big sloppy kisses to all the super-excellent bands who came up from Melbourne last weekend and helped unite the ska, punk and emo community. Unfortunately last Friday night was the last chance that any of you will be able to get the No Butts EP as it is now officially SOLD OUT. Feel free however to burn 10 million copies and give em to all your friends or just hit up www.mp3.com.au and download them first hand.

26 March, 2005

This Friday night at the Weston Creek Community Centre Los Capitanes is gonna be playing a throbbing fistful of brand new never before heard songs (brand new and never heard before new before EVER) Let the jubilation plus etc. ensue.

So come on down and sample some of our dirty new ear candy as well as some very hip stylings from top Melbourne punk acts Wishful Thinking and Know Exit as well as dead tough chick rockers The Gingers.

14 March, 2005

Los Capitanes would like to thank everyone who came down to Commonwealth park on Saturday night to see Los Cap Sandwiched between two Aussie pop icons. It was truly an amazing feeling to experience real professionalism first hand, hopefully none of it has rubbed off on us.

We've got some brand spankin' new gigs coming up with extra spank real soon, so keep an eye on the gig section for details. Or I could just put some dates below to save you the time...

1st April ALL AGES $10 @ Weston Creek Community centre w/ Never in Doubt, Wishful Thinking (Melb) and The Gingers (Melb)

10th April ALL AGES @ ??? w/ ??? (This gig is part of Youth week and will be massive, we'll let you know more details when we know them)

09 March, 2005

Oh yeah I almost forgot; the gig is totally free.

05 March, 2005

Next Saturday (12th March) Los Capitanes will be 'avin it large at Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park to help celebrate Canberra's birthday (or something) along with Killing Heidi, The Whitlams, Haley what's her face from Australian Idol and two people we're certainly getting very excited about... Bob the Builder and Humphrey B Bear! This night is gonna be absolutely HUGE, even more huge than some other thing! Los Cap will be kicking off at around 6:00 and the whole night is completely free so come along and dance like mad-dawgs (not to be confused with the tap dancing sensation 'Tap Dogs') and show Canberra that ska is alive and skanking...

26 February, 2005

A big "Thanks for coming to see us at the Canberra Show on Friday" must be extended to everyone who came to see us at the Canberra Show on Friday, especially the poor ladies at the thick shake stand who kinda got blasted by Lachlan's UBER HORN OF DEATH AND BRASS...ULTIMATE! It was stinkin' hot but the atmosphere was pretty top with "Twist up and merry go teacup cars " and "Spooky Spook House of Spook" galore. Rest assured everyone got REALLY good value for money in their MEGA AWESOME SHOWBAGS (NOW WITH EXTRA MEGA) and enjoyed our 'stint' at 'The Show'.

Our next 'show' is gonna be on the 12th of March at Commonwealth Park on Stage 88 (3 O'clock ish) with Killing Heidi and the Whitlams. Make sure when you all come along you make heaps of crazy go wild noise because its gonna be massive.

24 February, 2005

Los Capitanes will be playing this Friday Night at 8:00pm at the Canberra show. The bandstand is right near the entrance so you can't miss it, just follow the sound of us. And you should find us. It'll be a totally rad atmosphere, so bring your $478 Show bags and your industrial fairy floss and enjoy "The show".

17 February, 2005

Unfortunately Due to Venue Booking Complications Rock Relief the ALL AGES Tsunami Benefit at the Hellenic club this Friday has been cancelled. The good news is however that this means next weeks Canberra Show gig will have to be twice as QUITE EXTRA VERY LARGE (got caps lock?).

11 February, 2005

Los Capitanes will be cranking some skanking at the Hellenic Club next Friday the 18th February in aid of the Tsunami disaster along with Never in Doubt, Better Than a Poke in the Eye, Epic Flagon, Angus McDeath, Ebola Goldfish, Casual Projects and a whole host of other rad-tacular local acts. Los Cap will be storming the stage at around 11:00, although the night begins at 5:00pm, so make sure you get your moneys worth and rock up nice and early...

So make sure you keep checking the site over the next couple of days for more details regarding next weeks gig, some info on the Canberra Show show and an upcoming gig at Stage 88 with twin Aussie music giants The Whitlams and Killing Heidi...

31 January, 2005

Saturday's all ages show started off with the eagerly awaited return of Better than a Poke in the Eye. With a fist full of new tunes 'BTAPITE' came out swinging playing to an enthusiastic crowd of crazy eye poking supporters, many of them sporting trendy Poke in the Eye merchandise.

Los Capitanes took the stage with drummer swapping antics-a-go-go and skatalite tributes-a-plenty-plenty. For an afternoon the crowd certainly did go quite mental, after only a few songs the shirts began to fly as a topless crowd ebbed and surged in a sweaty half naked frenzy of skanking and moshing. It wasn't long before ska guru's the Porkers finally took the stage, proving not only is ska not dead but that it is in fact it is barely even injured. The young crowd took easily to the Porkers and skanked verily and merrily.

AT 8:30 that night, Final Warning took the stage and once again delivered a tight set of hard hitting political ska driving the growing crowd into a furious entanglement of flailing arms and legs.

Thanks to everyone who came along and supported the bands and especially those who came to both shows, Saturday was a complete success and we have only youse to thank. Los Cap will be returning to a venue near you soon enough so keep your ears and eyes open for our next gig details...

27 January, 2005

Park live 05 went into over drive on Australian Day with Australians-a-plenty flocking to glebe park to skank openly and proudly all in the name of skanking openly and proudly. Big word up on the flip side to fill in Los Cap drummer Jimi Moore who played like a man possessed the whole way through the set proving that once and for all the best drummers are those possessed by the Devil and or/ evil Jesus. Muchos thanks must go to Karen and her gang of merry men* for organising the event, a good time was had by all, especially the guy who rushed the stage and flopped out some shirtless free style rap (Is there any other kind??).

*people

23 January, 2005

Los Cap will be performing at 4:30pm next Wednesday in Glebe Park as a part of the Park Live 05 Australia Day Festival. Now obviously because its the Australia Day Festival anyone who doesn't come clearly isn't Australian and will be sent to Woomera to think about what it means to be an Australian. So to all you terrorist non Australians who don't come to Glebe Park and who aren't Australian, keep an ear out on the hand made ham radio you smuggled into the detention centre and you might be lucky enough to hear some Los Cap shenanigans going down on FM104.7 earlier in the day.

In Other radio related news, Los Cap CDs will soon be available to purchase at 2XX HQ in civic, so keep your ears peeled for Los Cap Ska, coming to an airwave near YOU.

16 January, 2005

Word to all the dope ass homies who made it to the show on Friday night. I'm sure that everyone who went will agree that all the bands definitely turned it on something dead tough and showed everyone a really top time. A heck of a lot of well rude skanking went down all in the name of charity; props go to Andrew for organising the event and raising a truck load of money for the tsunami disaster.

11 January, 2005

Unfortunately this Friday's gig will NOT be an all ages event. Massive apologies to all the underage rude boys and girls, rest assured we'll be cracking out some more underage stuff real soon including the massive Australia Day festival in Glebe Park.

09 January, 2005

Los Capitanes will be playing at the Ground Floor next Friday night along side 104 band Me the Conqueror, Penguin and Pot Belly Champs Static Empire to raise money for the Tsunami disaster. We're told that the event is being covered on local television and a massive new sound system is being brought in especially, so come along and see the best live music Canberra has to offer and support this awesome cause. Check the gig guide for more info about Friday as well as some new up coming gigs.

02 January, 2005

Well now its the year 2005 (year of the shaved llama), which means that basically anything that happened last year is SO last year and obviously anything happening this year is SO this year. As a result Los Capitanes has decided that the only way to stay hip and/or happening is to party like its 2006. So strap yourselves in for another year of manking (manic-skanking) and Absinth fuelled los cap shenanigans, the ska insurrection is at hand!
